Making data-based mating decisions, the farm successfully introduced two new Merino bloodlines. It has increased fleece weights and increased lamb survival rates.

Summary

Using data collected by Allflex RapID EID ear tags, Lindis Peaks has been able to introduce two new Merino bloodlines to its original two bloodlines using EBVs of stud rams. This change, according to Will Gibson, the farm’s genetic consultant, quickly paid off. “There’s a 6 kg difference between the top and bottom bloodlines in two-tooth ewes that are all running together, so that’s pretty straightforward to see.”
