Smart Not Stray - Rabies Free India Dream with Allflex RFID Microchips

Dogs are the most loved animals. From accompanying man to heaven as per mythology to going to space, dogs have held a sacred and sacrificial role across the world.

However, the rise in stray animals has led to several problems like Rabies, Canine Distemper Virus (CDV), population outburst, man-animal conflict, etc, which affect day to day life of the common citizens. With an estimated population of 35 Million stray dogs, India sees 17.5 million per year cases of animal bites. As per World Health Organization (WHO), India sees 20,000/year of rabies-related death and accounts for 36% of world rabies death, which is the highest in the world. By one estimate more than 5 million stray cattle roam the countryside in India which increases due to irresponsible ownership and abandonment.

A WHO study in the 1990s showed sterilization and vaccination were the only way to deal with street animals and the threat of rabies from them. They recommend to vaccination coverage of 70% of the stray population to control Rabies.

Despite sterilization and vaccination effort under Anti Rabies Vaccine (ARV) and ABC (Animal Birth Control) program in India, the challenges remain in following

  1. A stray dog once returned to the street become difficult to be identified at street level
  2. Tracking ownership of abandoned dogs
  3. Tracking vaccination status and coverage
  4. Cost of logistics, labor, and operation efficiency
  5. Unable to involve Volunteer/feeders participation
  6. Tracking of the entire life cycle, yearly trends, and maintain data on sex ratio digitally

Allflex microchips make it possible by identifying the vaccinated dogs. Watch how :-

Allflex Microchips readers differentiate between vaccinated and non-vaccinated stray dogs based on unique identity data managed in the cloud and mobile app.

Allflex India presents RFID Based technology to manage stray animals which uses passive low-frequency RFID Microchip, which transfers data through wireless non-contact use of radio-frequency waves. These Microchips are approved by the International Committee of Animal Recording (ICAR). Combined with hardware (Microchip), electronic file management system, and Internet of things (IoT) cloud technology, a new traceability network for stray animals can be formed to

  • Identify animals based on ownership, sex, breeds, photos, sterilization, vaccination, age etc at the micro-level.
  • Maintain sex ratio, vaccination, and sterilization coverage at the macro level.
  • Reduce re-vaccination, logistics, and labor costs.
  • Prevent abandonment.
  • Helps in effective implementation of ABC and ARV programs with traceability.

Post execution of this identification drive which can be done under several schemes and initiatives like Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, Anti Rabies Vaccination, Animal Birth Control Program, and Smart City, the citizens, dog lovers, and feeders  can feel proud about the traceability of all dog in their community and India can proud declare stray as smart animals under #SmartNotStray campaign
